- Ingredient Quantity
- All-purpose flour 2 ½ cups
- Granulated sugar 1 ¾ cups
- Baking powder 2 ½ tsp
- Salt ½ tsp
- Unsalted butter softened 1 cup
- Eggs 4 large
- Vanilla extract 2 tsp
- Whole milk 1 cup
- Optional Cocoa powder ½ cup
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line the heart-shaped pan (or round and square pans).
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry.
Pour batter into prepared pan(s).
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cool completely before removing from pan and decorating.
For a DIY heart shape, bake in one round and one square pan. Cut the round cake in half and position it against two sides of the square cake to form a heart.
Flavor variations: Add cocoa powder for chocolate flavor or red food coloring for a red velvet look.
Chill the cake before trimming or decorating for best results.
