Method

  3. Steam tempeh for 10 minutes to remove bitterness and improve texture.
  4. In a bowl, mix BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, and spices.
  5. Coat the steamed tempeh thoroughly in the marinade.
  6. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight.

  9. Bake: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
  10. Pan-fry: Fry on medium heat until caramelized on both sides.
  11. Baste with extra BBQ sauce while cooking for a sticky glaze.
  12. Serve hot with sides or in sandwiches, bowls, or tacos.
