  • 2 oz 60 ml hot water (approx. 175°F / 80°C)

  • Matcha bowl (chawan) or small deep bowl
  • Bamboo scoop (chashaku) or measuring spoon
  • Fine mesh sifter
  • Kettle or pot to heat water

Method

  2. Sift the matcha powder into the bowl using a fine mesh sieve to remove clumps.
  3. Add 2 oz of hot water (do not boil).
  4. Whisk briskly in a zig-zag motion (M or W shape) using the chasen until frothy and smooth on the surface.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes:
For a smoother drink, always sift the matcha.
You can adjust the strength by adding more or less powder.
To create a matcha latte, add 6 oz of steamed milk after whisking.
Best enjoyed fresh. Avoid letting it sit too long to prevent bitterness.
