- Instructions:
- Slice the bread roll horizontally with a sharp bread knife.
- Spread butter and a thin layer of English mustard on the cut sides of the roll.
- Layer the lettuce leaves on the bottom half of the roll.
- Add the ham slices, followed by the cheddar cheese.
- Place the sliced tomato on top, and add a spoonful of pickle relish if you like.
- Close the sandwich with the top half of the roll and press down gently.
- Slice in half if desired, and serve immediately.

Feel free to substitute other fillings such as turkey, chicken, or plant-based slices.
Whole-grain knob rolls can make this sandwich more nutritious.
For a warm version, toast the roll lightly before assembling.
